This textured bangle is created from non-specific text from Batak (old language of Sumatra) & etched it into bronze & silver. In most Batak communities, only the priests were able to use the Batak script & used it mainly for magical texts & calendars. In the late 1800’s, upon the arrival of Europeans, the Batak language co-existed with the newly introduced Roman script. Soon after WWI, the native language was slowly replaced & today it is mostly ornamental. The script selection has no specific meaning but is pulled from an old protection prayer & is used mainly for it’s aesthetic design. Also available in aged sterling silver. These are true bangles meant to slip over the hand with no opening. Inside diameter measures 6.35 cm / 2.5".
